STAND-UP FOR DOWN SYNDROME
Northlink – a Group of final year students present a collaborative show to benefit Down Syndrome South Africa. LOLAPOLELOOZA takes place 20 September 2014 on Northlink Tygerberg Campus at 18:30 for 19:00. Tickets will be pre-sold only, at R70pp.
For their final year assessment, a group of international Tourism students were challenged to organise an event for a charity of their choosing. Thus, the “highly laughable” event came to life as the brain-child of a selective group. “Parents” Emce Kruger, Celeste Steyn, Zimkitha Magabolo, Petro Olckers and Justin Paulse’s aim is for people to enjoy the event as much as they have organising it.
By prompting the contribution of old Northlink students, the show found its entertainment. Local and international performers fill the line up, from comedians to professional dancers. Vertical Secrets’ Sonja Keil, and The Comedy Company’s Joe Emilio are both past Drama students who want to give back. The dance studio is a lifelong dream of Juanita Marable, who moved from the United States, pursued and realised it here. They focus on creating awareness of pole-based fitness as a competitive sport in South Africa, as well as a dance form.
Joe Emilio will act as the hilarious host of the evening. As a comedian himself, he brought friends to the stage such as Westley Cockrell, Phil De Lange, Nelson De Gouveia and headliner Angel Campey. H.O.D of Tourism and Hospitality, Mrs Gwen Harmsen, described this task as being part of Ubuntu * enabling students to give back to the community. That is what it is all about. There will also be prizes, lucky draws, a photo booth and some other exiting things.
