Embocraft Training Centre Trust is situated near the Valley of 1000 Hills, 35 kilometres outside Durban City Centre in KwaZulu-Natal. It consists of an administration building and three large training rooms. Additionally there are four small independent workshops, which are used by our trainees to start up their own small businesses.

Embocraft was started in 1986 with the aim of teaching basic sewing skills to women and to provide them with opportunities for self-improvement, self-employment and income generation. Over the past twenty years, Embocraft has been involved in the training and upliftment of both women and men throughout KwaZulu-Natal and the courses have evolved to include textile craft training as well.

Vision of Embocraft Training Trust:

– To train and uplift communities to become self sustainable as a result of selling products developed through our craft skills and sewing programs
– To assist communities to identify and address the market requirements for the local and the tourist market
– To equip communities to manage the costing and marketing of the products developed
– Thereby improving socio economic conditions of these communities especially youth, women and those affected by HIV / AIDS

Mission of Embocraft Training Trust:

We are committed to:
– increase self esteem among people
– develop trust and relationships as well as creativity
– improve the capability of youth and disadvantaged people to gain employment or self employment through skills training
– community development, which will in turn reduce widespread poverty

Aims of Embocraft Training Trust:

Our aim is to:
– successfully train people in various craft and business skills
– develop unique products as a result of this training
– promote the value of all craft occupations
– encourage design and production of ‘made in South Africa’ products
– ensure high standards and quality of work
– assist in the development of small size enterprises
– encourage self employment
– train business skills relating to product development and small business management
– monitor and mentor the progress and development of the groups trained

Objectives of Embocraft Training Trust

– To train women and youth from the previously disadvantaged communities and persons affected by HIV / AIDS
– To successfully train people in various skills development which could lead to income generation
– To enable trainees to be able to pass the skills learnt on to others within their community
– To create self employment and increase employment for the trainees by offering their services to others within their community

Our courses range from a basic computer course of one week at R2,500.00 to our advanced sewing groups for 10 people over 3 weeks (including hand sewing machines) at R20,000.00.

The welding course due to begin at the beginning of September 2011 works out at R1,400.00 per student and we are hoping to run a course of 6 weeks of 10 students i.e. R14,000.00 for the course. This will held 3 days a week for 6 weeks.

The students are presented with a Certificate of Completion which they can then add to their CVs.
