The organisation was founded in November 2005 by Sarah Holland as a safe house, and registered in October 2009 as a non profit organisation. Its main purpose was to provide a dignified homecare service to abused and abandoned children. The first child to walk through the doors of the Hope in Christ mission was an abandoned baby girl in 2006. Thereafter many children were placed in her care. Most of the children came from abusive homes. On 9 February 2010 the house was destroyed by a fire and claimed the lives of 11 people including Sarah Holland. In July 2010 the organisation amended the constitution to build a child and youth care centre. The first building of the new centre will begin on 27 April 2012. Funds and building supplies are still greatly needed to successfully complete the building project. The organisation aims to provide homecare to 42 children and education to the rural community. They also aim to impact the local community of Ingogo with outreach programs once they are established.
