Give a Child a Family is a temporary care facility for 60 children aged birth to 12 years of age. The reason for admission of each child is different and their length of stay depends on the child’s individual circumstances.
On admission every child is assessed to establish their physical, emotional and educational needs and an Individual Care Plan is developed for each child. The multi-disciplinary team consisting of the Shelter Social Worker, Teachers, Nurse, Psychologist, Therapist and Childcare Workers, monitor the progress of the children at weekly case conferences.
Every morning we all meet for devotions and the children start the day by singing their favourite songs. It is also the time that we celebrate birthdays or say goodbye to those children that are leaving us to go to their new families. Thereafter the daily activities start.
Our most important task is for children to know and feel that they are special and that their lives are significant! The Restorative Care Programs deal with the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of children.
