Although based in the East Rand region of Johannesburg, Gauteng, we network with numerous similar animal welfare organisations across the country. Our mission is to save the lives of relinquished, abandoned, abused and neglected dogs. We do this to the fullest extent of our limited facilities and funds.
Responsible homing of rescued dogs is of the utmost importance. Screening and property checks ensure us that each dog will be taken in by a committed and loving family, only after sterilisation, vaccination, deworming and microchipping by the committee veterinarian.
Sterilisation of adopted puppies is compulsory and this is diligently followed up. A legally enforceable contract, signed on adoption, ensures that sterilisation takes place.
The permanent residents of Wolfshaven live in conditions such as would be found in a normal dog loving home. The permanent resident dogs are too old and / or too traumatised by previous abuse to be rehomed. The dogs not sharing the actual house have gardens bigger than the average household. They have large walk-in shelters and lots of green lawn and shady areas. All resident dogs are sterilised, fully vaccinated annually, regularly dewormed and taken to the grooming parlour. They are under full supervision of our committee veterinarian, and procedures such as teeth cleaning and descaling are done regularly.
We promote animal welfare by continuous education with regards to the importance of sterilisation, vaccination, deworming and tick / flea control.
