The Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest provides funding and supports other services to Welfare Organisations in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas. For 2011 / 2012 an amount of R2,800,000 has been pledged to 69 Welfare Organisations. To assist in raising funds the Community Chest hosts a number of fundraising events and promotions during the year.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Community Chest is a non-profit organisation, committed to raising and distributing significantly large funds in a professional and effective manner.

We are committed to financially assisting a range of registered local Social Welfare organisations in meeting the many, varied and changing needs of the Community.

We ensure that the donated monies are used in an efficient and relevant manner.

We aim to meet the Social Responsibility needs of all Donors by facilitating the widest, most effective distribution of funds.

We are dedicated to promoting the cause of Social Welfare to the Community at large – awakening the public to a sense of Social Responsibility and the economic need to assist the disadvantaged.

We strive to create a stimulating and challenging environment for volunteers and staff for personal growth and self-fulfilment.

To continually improve the capacity of Pietermaritzburg people to care for one another and help provide resources to support the communities growing need for high quality health and human care services.
