Thabo Mwale TB Foundation (TMTBF) is a TB / HIV and AIDS prevention and awareness campaign foundation. TMTBF is currently running a TB / HIV project in Gauteng, Tshwane District Municipality. The foundation is working hand in hand with the Department of Health and is also a member of Stop TB Partnership (www.stoptbpartnership.org) and Advocacy Partnership.
The foundation consists of seven board members, five managing committee members and thirty volunteer members who work as care givers (DOT Supporters), peer educators and TB / HIV counsellors.
The foundation was found by Mr. Thabo Mwale, who himself is a TB survivor. He was infected in 1994 and was cured in 1997. His extended period of infection was caused by defaulting on TB treatment. He is now surviving with one lung and currently being appointed a TB Ambassador for Tshwane in 2009 by the Department of Health.
TMTBF’s goal is to reduce dramatically the burden of TB by 2015 in South Africa in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and the Stop TB Partnership targets.
