Rural Education, Awareness & Community Health (REACH)

REACH is a registered non-profit and public benefit organization that addresses sexual harassment and violence against women on farms and in communities of the Western Cape.

REACH’s strategy is multi-pronged, comprising of 6 main project activities. REACH provides awareness and capacity building training of farm communities on sexual harassment, domestic violence, rape and HIV and AIDS and provides counselling and legal support to female farm workers who are survivors of sexual harassment and violence. REACH also holds campaigns on issues affecting women and its annual South African Rural Women’s Day Campaign has increased in popularity since it was first celebrated in 2006. Finally, REACH also conducts continuous research to inform its advocacy activities which seek to highlight the gaps in laws and policies, such as the lack of a law on sexual harassment, so that real long term change can be created for women in our country.

REACH has made great strides and affected positive changes since inception in our mission to sensitize rural farming communities and other relevant stakeholders on the issues of sexual harassment and sexual violence through the implementation of programmes that encourage ethical, social, personal awareness and development. Our vision is that of an empowered community that is socially aware, independent, responsible, self-caring and free of sexual harassment and sexual violence.
