The mission of Philippi Trust is to provide affordable and accessible professional counselling and counselling training to both church and community.
Aims and Objectives of the Trust
The Trust is a non-profit organization of a public character, established for the sole object of providing counselling and educational programmes relating to abuse, prevention of addiction to dependence-forming substances, family stability, HIV/Aids, as well as psycho-social support to vulnerable and abandoned children.
Origins of Philippi Trust:
Philippi Trust was originally founded in Blackpool, England in 1989. Were instrumental in setting up ethical standards of practise and the Association of Christian Counsellors (UK). Over a period of time a variety of training courses were developed and accredited in the UK, as well as an international Policy Document and ethical codes of practise for Philippi Trust operations. There are training centres operating in Belgium, Germany, and Guernsey, throughout England and in Namibia.
Courses have been offered in South Africa since 1997. In 1999 Philippi Trust South Africa was formally founded with a Board of Trustees, opening offices in KwaZulu-Natal and the Cape Province. Philippi Trust South Africa was registered as a non profit organisation in 2002.
Principle Areas of Operation:
- Providing education and training to people to equip them to recognise and counsel people suffering from substance abuse and addictive behaviour.
- Providing education and training to people to equip them to counsel and care for persons affected with HIV/Aids and their families.
- Providing education and training to equip people to counsel adult survivors of child abuse.
- Providing teaching and training in accordance with the Christian faith.
- Providing a Christian counselling facility for Church Leaders or Ministers and the community, accessible to all.
- Providing psychosocial care and support for Orphans and Vulnerable Children with our Resilient Kids Program.
Modus Operandi:
Philippi Trust South Africa offers both counselling and training by trained personnel subscribing to a Code of Ethics and Practice, under professional supervision. We have obtained organisational accreditation with HWSETA and some of our training courses are accredited. Our counsellors are in membership with SAAP (Southern African Association of Pastoral workers) and the ACC-SA. Our qualified counsellors are covered by indemnity insurance.
