Phethahatso Community Development

PHETHAHATSO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT is a comprehensive community development (non profit organization) which has a heavy emphasis on ‘FOOD SECURITY’ to the disadvantaged even though its scope of vision and operation transcends food security. Our entry point is to address the short term interventions such as feeding vulnerable people and orphans.

Our organization seeks to find an integrated socioeconomic community development strategy which will positively address the socioeconomic challenges of our communities without losing sight of the non economic factors that comprehensively improve the quality of life.

We believe there is a lot to be gained from approaching poverty eradication from a wider perspective in our situation where malnutrition and HIV / AIDS are so interlinked. All components of good quality of life get attention when related problems are tackled concurrently. Of particular economic importance we can mention increased income, employment creation, productivity gains, access to markets, distribution of income, etc. Of the special social importance, we can mention environmental impacts, time savings, education enrolment, capacity building, increased information, skills development, health (access, reduced costs) gender impacts and so on. This suggests that development is a much broader concept than simply income growth and other economic indicators.
