PATCH / Helderberg Child Abuse Centre

Each day there is more than one child being sexually abused in the Helderberg area alone, the majority of the children reported to PATCH are young girls, the youngest being only 6 months old.

PATCH, the Helderberg Child Abuse Centre in Western Cape, South Africa, aims to support all child victims of sexual abuse in the Helderberg and strives to prevent the incidence of this horrific crime committed against innocent children.

We believe that every child victim of sexual abuse is entitled to immediate crisis intervention, free professional therapy in his / her home language at a facility close to the child victim’s home, and preparation for the court case.

The main goals of our organisation are:

- To deliver a comprehensive crisis intervention service to child victims of sexual abuse, 24 hours a day.
- To provide free professional therapy to child victims of sexual abuse in their home language at a facility close to their home.
- To increase the rate of disclosures of sexual abuse.
- Prepare children for their court case.
- To provide pre-test HIV counselling
- To provide access to PEP treatment (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) to prevent the transmission of HIV or STD (sexually transmitted disease).
- To create awareness of sexual abuse in the Helderberg.

With the generous help of corporate funding as well as the community, PATCH has provided treatment and therapy to thousands of child victims of sexual abuse for the past 18 years.
