Golden Valley in the Eastern Cape is situated 160 kilometres from Port Elizabeth and 7 kilometres from Cookhouse. The area was established after the First World War in 1917 when troops were allocated land to begin farming. The building was used as a boarding house whilst farmers set up their farms and later became a hotel. As far as we know, the hotel had been a going concern since then.

We purchased the hotel in 2006 and ran it as a family business. During this period, we took in numerous residents and assisted many with their reintegration into society. During this time, and also because our daughter Elaine had attended a rehabilitation facility, we saw the absolute need to start a secondary care facility.

Mi’Ketz, when translated from Hebrew, means the end. It refers to when Moses led his people from Egypt and the New Beginnings in Israel. It is our wish and passion that we might be able to lead those currently trapped in the slavery of addiction into new beginnings and a life of fulfilment. As far as we are aware, we are the first all girls recovery centre in South Africa.

Our program, which is Faith Based, is a minimum 9 month stay however we recommend that 12 months be completed. For those who would like to stay longer, we also highly recommend this. We will be following the highly rated ‘Celebrate Recovery’ program and have many projects in the pipeline to keep our residents busy. Some of these include a self sufficient vegetable garden, raising and hand rearing of parrots, production of items such as jams, relishes, etc that can be sold in a farm stall, raising our own chickens and eggs, production of leather and game skin items, etc.

As we have been an operating hotel until now, our facility must rate as one of the better ones in the country and we have all the amenities such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, volley ball court, etc.
