Masikhanye Food Garden

The Masikhanye Food Garden produces crops like spinach, carrots, beetroot, cabbages, tomatoes, etc, using organic principles. We sell to the local people in the area as well as supply to Harvest of Hope. Our main focus is food security and income generation for our members. The last year has been exceptional as we have obtained and grew tomatoes in an enclosed tunnel structure for the first time. We also moved onto our main site of 11,000 square metres of land and have tilled and planted 50% of the available land. As we do not use chemicals for growing or controlling of pests the turnover is slower, yet we are happy with the quality and freshness of our product. We should be completed with the rehabilitation, of this previously dumping ground, by the end of 2011.
