Little Angels

LITTLE ANGELS is involved in various activities, all aimed at making a difference to as many lives as possible in the needy communities. We care for babies and children in our family home and we aid others (moms and siblings) in their own homes or projects. We have a Day Care home, run a very busy Help Centre, and have many outreach projects. Members of the dedicated Management Committee are actively involved in the running of the homes, the Help Centre and the outreaches.

The founders and House Parents of Little Angels, Phillip and Pat van Rensburg, screen and train volunteers, host local and foreign visitors to raise awareness of AIDS and our projects, and enjoy strong community support.

We network with other organisations for mutual growth and support, and to share ideas and training. We are affiliated to Connect Network in the West Cape, and we are very well known to various Social Welfare organizations, and Provincial Social Services of the Western Cape.

BABY and CHILD FULL-TIME CARE

Our 24 hour home care is of a very high standard and we have firm rules / procedures in our nursery. Our goal is a forever family for each child. As most are newborn / HIV+ / otherwise challenged, they are handled exclusively by House Parents.

BABY CARE

* We care for babies from birth to ±1 yr old, short term, by giving them a home, clothing, food, plenty of love, and cuddling.
* We provide a safe place of care for babies in crisis. They are brought to us by destitute mothers, pregnancy crisis centres, hospitals, police, or welfare organisations.
* We visit clinics and hospitals regularly for medical care.
* Babies needing care are fetched by us from hospitals etc. When ready for adoption, we safely deliver to new parents.
* We maintain records for each baby, and also a history by way of photo albums and milestone charts, which is given to each child when they leave us.
* We attend certain Court hearings and liaise with Children’s Court and Social Workers about legal issues and paperwork.

TODDLERS and OLDER CHILDREN

* We provide emergency and short term care for 2+ yr olds.
* We cater for schooling, medical and spiritual needs.
* We organise family outings and church attendance.
* Students and volunteers interact with our older children.

SPECIAL NEEDS BABIES / CHILDREN

* We care for those with HIV/AIDS, cerebral palsy, mental or physical challenges, hydrocephalus, and high risk medical conditions like tracheostomy cases, tube feeders, etc.
* We care for terminally ill babies, and allow them to die with dignity and love, in a caring family environment.
* We provide individual and specialised medical care and therapy.
* We involve local community for prayer and support.

BABY and CHILD DAY CARE

* We have a small home in a needy community where we can provide care to babies, toddlers and special needs children on a daily basis, in a well equipped nursery, with a resident House Mother.
* We cater for their daily needs and provide the regular four hourly bottle feeds, breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks.
* We help to clothe babies, and provide mothers with extra items and sundries to assist these struggling families.
* We assist by taking babies for clinic visits and attending to health needs.
* Volunteers and students are extremely helpful in this home.

OUTREACH PROJECTS:

BABIES/CHILDREN PREVIOUSLY CARED FOR BY US

* We maintain contact, and we support babies who return to a mother or relative, and who request our assistance.
* We provide for physical needs, as well as sourcing help for their legal, emotional and other needs.

BABIES/CHILDREN / MOTHERS IN OWN HOMES

* Often we are asked to assist families where mother is able to keep her child with her, but needs help.
* We visit, and provide care and support for child and mother.

SOCIAL PROGRAM FOR NEEDY CHILDREN

* We visit and liaise regularly with leaders of various projects for the very needy, about social and practical issues.
* We arrange social and educational events for groups, away from their environment, feed them and provide some goods.
* Over Easter and Christmas periods, we host many outings and parties for children. We also travel far and wide to many projects and families to distribute gifts at these times.
* We involve community, volunteers and students in outreach.

SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUALS and OTHER HOMES

* We assist many others locally and far afield by taking them clothing, equipment, food and specific needs.
* Often we help them by doing small odd jobs and repairs.

HELP CENTRE

We receive loads of donations of clothing and equipment, which we share out in several local and rural areas.

COLLECTION OF GOODS FROM DONORS
We collect items / loads from various areas and bring them back to our Help Centre, where we sort, clean and launder.

MAKING UP OF PARCELS
We sort and pack parcels which we deliver to individuals and organisations, according to their needs.

DISTRIBUTION OF GOODS
We distribute equipment, food, and goods to our many outreach projects, some listed above.

PURCHASES OF SPECIFIC OR URGENT NEEDS
We sometimes need to buy and deliver items urgently required (like food and medicine), and to provide specific needs which, notwithstanding appeals, have not been donated.

GENERAL HELP / CONTACT / COUNSELLING
Many people are assisted by our Office Manager and the House Parents. We receive a huge number of phone calls, emails, and faxes requesting information regarding abandonments, abuse, legal issues, emergency care, foster care, adoption, and the care of babies/children with special needs. We also assist desperate folk with social problems such as unwanted/teenage pregnancies, homelessness, etc.

LITTLE ANGELS does not receive a Government grant, only gifts from individuals and donations from companies (on an irregular basis). Although we are blessed with clothing and equipment, we need to raise sufficient funds for day to day running costs. We trust in God to provide for this ministry and we truly appreciate all prayers and gifts.
