Kwa.mama is a care centre that invites unemployed residents of Shakashead to come and contribute working hours that are rewarded with a token for every three hours of completed service. Kwa.mama volunteers gather and collect reusable items of clothing, linen, shoes, books, toys, kitchen goodies and odd bits of furniture to stock the token shop. People who earn tokens are Kwa.mama Members, and they have jobs doing cleaning, cooking, child care, gardening. We have a fully stocked class room for pre-school children and have 140 children on daily basis. Our whole centre has bee put together with second hand / recycled goodies. It takes a team of 20 to 25 Members to take care, cook and clean the garden at our centre.
