Kganya-Ka-Kitso Motivational Women and Youth Forum is an empowerment and motivational organization aimed at recognizing the importance of eradicating information deprivation for the development of women and youth entrepreneurs. The organization has been operating since May 2008 and was successfully registered as an NPO on 24 August 2010. The organization seeks to foster self development through pertinent multi-faceted empowerment and transformational income-generating initiatives which will ultimately culminate in poverty alleviation and social engineering.
The idea to embark on this initiative emanated from a compulsion to respond to socio- economic exigencies prevalent in South Africa and consequently change the total economic landscape. Research indicates that the most pressing challenge besetting South Africa is the slow progress in increasing a sufficient number of viable and sustainable economic enterprises, a phenomenon which has spawned negative results in relation to income distribution, entrepreneurship and employment creation. The government recognizes the pivotal role co-operatives could play in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of productive employment, poverty eradication, social integration and advancement of women and youth.
Subsequent to assessing critical economic issues and challenges faced by particularly women and youth across the country, the organization deemed it appropriate to place focus on the development of rural areas consistent with government priorities and goals. The organization envisages that the creation and development of co-operatives specifically, will propel employment creation to greater heights. In a nutshell, the organization derives legitimacy from the government- spearheaded drive for organizations to offer assistance towards the promotion and success of these self-help organizations.
VISION:
To be the ultimate vehicle through which the lives of entrepreneurial women and youth are transformed for the better.
MISSION STATEMENT:
- To engender a culture of self-empowerment and self-help through facilitating income-generating initiatives.
- To empower emerging women and youth entrepreneurs through information sharing sessions and workshops that will translate into the realization of business goals.
- To create sustainable small business enterprises through perpetual monitoring, evaluation and support.
- To open a platform for networking.
SERVICES:
Kganya-Ka-Kitso is an interactive tool for information sharing on a wide range of issues including but not limited to: economic issues and how to navigate the volatile economic arena, funding opportunities for a business, overall financial matters, legalities around business, social issues especially pertaining to women and youth development as well as how the political environment affects them.
The interventions are driven by a need to have an even distribution of information by generating greater accessibility to it by all hierarchies in the market and to empower women and youth turning them into self sufficient individuals culminating in diminished unemployment rates by default addressing social ills. Although the ultimate goal is to promote entrepreneurship in women and youth, a multi- dimensional approach is adopted with the realisation that if the total make up of an individual is not addressed the whole effort will be in vain and not be achieved. The organization’s strategy is to prepare the mind of an individual for consumption and most importantly utilization of information provided.
For maximum impact and value, the central point of the organisation’s functioning is a strong emphasis on Emerging Co-operatives. These are co-operatives that are perceived to be bedevilled by lack of training and survival. The type of support central to the optimisation of these co-operatives include, inter alia, capacity building, financial assistance, marketing of their products or services offered as well as the expansion and modernizing of their operations. It is however behoving that support not be limited to facilitating the take-off of novice co-operatives but also be extended to encouraging the creation of new ones. Stemming from an evaluation of business imperatives, the organisation has resolved to adopt a two-pronged approach with focus being placed on the Manufacturing and Agricultural sectors.
