Jo’burg Child Welfare

Jo’burg Child Welfare has provided over 100 years of caring for the greater Johannesburg area’s most vulnerable children. The organisation runs several centres including Othandweni Family Care Centre, Elton John Masibambisane Centre for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children, Princess Alice Adoption Home, Thembalethu Life Skills and Economic Empowerment Centre as well as Aganang Training Centre.

Social workers provide core services in one of three areas:
- the Child and Family Unit which handles all incoming cases of abuse, abandonment, neglect, orphanhood and consent for adoption;
- Foster Care and Family Re-Integration Services; and
- Child Abuse Treatment and Training Services.

The organisation also runs the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children’s Forum which lends support to fifty five community-based organisations and does critical work in the area of Advocacy. JCW provides direct services to 45,000 children and their families on an annual basis and through the OVC forum reaches another 25,000 children and families indirectly.
