 | FOCUS AREA:
To offer shelter, rehabilitation and family reunification support to all destitute adult "street persons" in the Western Cape.
WE NEED:
Volunteers - in operations as well as in governance. Followed by money, clothing (especially practical womens clothing and shoes), non perishable food, information on job opportunities.
LATEST NEWS:
Reducing the numbers of people living on upon streets and in public places. We do this by working with 'street people' to get them into shelters as a temporary space on the way home.
We work with the public and municipalities to discourage the enablement of people to live on our streets. Soup kitchens are encouraged to move to the poor areas instead of in the City, the public are continously asked not to give directly to a street person; rather support your local church or NGO where an organised response will have a greater effect.
The Haven currently serves 1050 persons in residential care and through our fieldworkers programme and outreach work we daily make contact with an average of 520 persons still living on the streets.
We are in the process of contracting an 80 bed shelter in Retreat at an estimated cost of R3 million.
