Future of the African Daughter Project

The Future of the African Daughter project (FOTAD) is a girl-child development project for girls aged 12 to 19 years who come from previously disadvantaged areas.

The FOTAD girl-child development programme changes the life of the ordinary girl from the township and rural areas, the African daughter, by providing practical and meaningful assistance, guidance and skills. This happens at FOTAD gatherings, both during the school term and the school holidays, where all activities are focussed on the following areas:

i. Maths and science excellence
ii. Leadership development
iii. Lifeskills training
iv. ICT training

The Lifeskills programme and Leadership programme have been designed by FOTAD to speak to the girls’ immediate environment, and associated challenges. The 3 different programmes together provide holistic development of the girls; academic, social and personal. Bodies of research all identify a distorted perception of self worth and self-esteem as a contributor to girl children not succeeding academically, particularly in Maths and Science.

Our Vision is to create a community of brilliant, independent and self-assured young women, who shall be the leaders of tomorrow and meaning participants in the South African economy.
