 | FOCUS AREA:
Friends Day Centre is an education and training facility for learners of all ages with severe intellectual and physical disabilities. The youngest learner at the Centre is 2 years old and the oldest is 48 years old. We are committed to providing stimulating, developmental programmes and activities such as physiotherapy, spa therapy, self help skills, dance and music, toilet training and various forms of communication, so that each learner can develop to his/her fullest potential.
Our learners are bussed in from the Southern suburbs, Northern suburbs and Central and Cape Town area. A number of our learners are on the Dial 'n Ride system and some parents bring their children in daily. We have very committed and dedicated staff members that ensure that each learner in their care enjoys maximum benefit from the daily programmes provided. There are very few centres in the Western Cape providing quality care for severely intellectually disabled persons such as that provided by Friends. We have a proud record and are often quoted as an example to others.
WE NEED:
Money is the most important need at the moment as there are very few corporate bodies who want to give money towards running costs. Running costs is our greatest expense. We are also always in need of volunteers and clothing especially for our hospital learners.
