Footsteps is a not for profit association of Organisation Development (OD) and development practitioners working with Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in South Africa.

Footsteps was founded on the premise that there was a substantial demand for support to develop the capacity of CSOs to take up issues and work more effectively in society. This capacity building will help CSOs contribute to the process of ensuring fairness, health, equity and development in society.

The working principles of footsteps are:

- We support rather than direct the development processes of our clients.
- Change and development both require will; neither can be ‘made to happen’ without the active participation and choice of the client.
- We facilitate learning through personal and organisational reflection on current practice. Development begins from where the person or organisation is now.
- There are no ‘magic bullets’: each client and each situation is unique and requires a unique response.
