Fifty Plus Centre

Fifty Plus Centre currently focuses on the following areas:

1. Underprivileged Families:

Being underprivileged doesn’t mean: being lazy or not willing to work, underprivileged comes with different circumstances. We at the Fifty Plus Centre are trying to change the fortune of these individuals and their run of bad circumstances by doing the following:
- We help them with food parcels, clothing, toiletries, blankets, etc.
- Providing a basic food parcels per family is costly and we need sponsors. A food parcel with just the bare essentials is costing us R1000.00 per family per month.
- We are also in the process of trying to help people that are willing to help themselves, by providing jobs as drivers.

This particular project entails feeding existing and homeless families, as well as supplying of toiletries, clothing and food to the homeless.

2. Underprivileged Elderly:

We help the elderly with food parcels, clothing, toiletries, blankets, etc. Providing a basic food parcels per elderly couple or an individual elderly is costly and we need sponsors. A food parcel with just the bare essentials is costing us R1000.00 per elderly per month. The reason why it stays on a R1000 per elderly couple or per elderly individual is because we study each and every person that we help, getting involve in each and every way, where with some elderly couples we are able to only buy a R1000.00 food parcel because they do not need medicines or special food, where we also have elderly couples who we need to buy medicines and special food for it would cost us R2000.00 per elderly couple, meaning that they are then considered as costs of an individual.

We have many elderly that we help who needs special food, example, whole-wheat bread, fish, parsley, more vegetables than others, etc. as some of them has illnesses like, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, heart disease, etc and as per their diet even if we are the only help that they do get, we do not see it as a way to keep the food parcels as cheap as possible but as healthy as possible for each individual as everyone’s needs are not the same.

3. Stolen lives Project (AIDS Project):

More than 1,000 children are newly infected with HIV every day, and of these more than half will die. People living with HIV have great emotional needs and require support for coming to terms with their infection. Some of the feelings that people with HIV will experience include shock or anger at being diagnosed, fear over how the disease will progress, fear of isolation by family and friends, and worries about infecting others. By bearing such a heavy emotional burden it is not surprising that depression is twice as common in people with HIV compared to the general population and that is why Fifty Plus Centre makes HIV infected people feel comfortable and loved no matter what their HIV status is.

4. Our Children:

Our main goal for our sick. disabled and abandoned kids, are to get them through their school years with pride. We are all aware just how it goes in school, when you are not stocked up with all the stationary and books and clothes and don’t forget all the ‘cool stuff’ we all needed.
