I have seen a charity that I liked. How do I help?

Click on the charity's name on the home page. This will take you to their own page within www.CharitySA.co.za There you will be able to read more about the charity. You will also find their contact details, address and bank account. You can help by making a financial donation or contact them and ask what they need at the moment.


Is it safe to just transfer money into an account?

Always verify the account holder, account number as well as other banking details with the Bank in question before transferring or depositing money into an account. The owners and staff of www.CharitySA.co.za will assume that this verification will be done prior to any donation, cash deposit or electronic transfer of funds. By verifying the banking details you can rest assured that you money went into the right account.


Will I get a receipt for tax purposes?

Contact the charity and make arrangements for a receipt before making your donation.


How do I know all these organisations are really charities?

We verify the NPO (non-profit organisation) number of all organisations listed on www.CharitySA.co.za


I would like to help but do not have money to donate?

Contact the charity of your choice directly. They might need volunteers or assistance with projects. On each charity's page you will see what their biggest needs are.


Is www.CharitySA.co.za a charity?

No. Nor are we a welfare organisation or a non-profit organisation. Revenue generated by www.CharitySA.co.za will be utilised in the running of the website, covering staff costs, getting more charities represented as well as advertising as much as possible. Our aim is to give charities, welfare and non-profit organisations exposure that could lead to an increase in donations.


What is a NPO?

A Non-profit Organisation is a trust, company or other association of persons:
(a) that was established for a public purpose, and
(b) the income and property of this organisation are not distributable to its members or office bearers except as reasonable compensation for services rendered.


Which organisations can apply for NPO status?

Any organisation that is not working for profit and is not part of government can apply for registration. These are mostly the following:

  • Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO)

  • Faith Based Organisations (FBO)

  • Community Based Organisations (CBO)

  • Trusts that have registered with Master of the Supreme Court under the Trust Property Control Act 57 of 1988.

  • Organisations that have registered as Section 21 Companies under the Company Act 61 of 1973.

  • Any other voluntary association that is not-for-profit.

I want to register my organisation as a NPO. How do I go about this?
