 | FOCUS AREA:
The Men on the Side of the Road (MSR) project was founded in 2001 to address the plight of unemployed men who congregate daily on the side of the road. We do this primarily through placement in work, and also through skills development and training. The goal is long term employment - in reality short term contracts and day work are more likely.
Our approach has helped thousands of people find work. We have facilitated the training of hundreds of these men, providing them with skills that will help them forever. We have brought dignity to the destitute, and our endeavours benefit more than just our members - they affect their families and dependents too. By the end of this year, we will work with 6,500 men and generate 120,000 workdays worth R9.6 million.
MSR provides a bridge which enables our members to move into the mainstream economy. We do this by facilitating employment opportunities through our branded sites, as well as other job creation initiatives and training to enhance our members' skills. Each strategically-located site has a designated fieldworker who acts as a coordinator/organiser of the site.
WE NEED:
Our success has created exciting opportunities for further growth. We currently have 15 branded job sites around the country, and opportunities exist to fund one of these, or another, strategically-selected site.
