Elite Secondary College

Elite College is an independent school registered as ‘n Art 21 (PTY) (company without gain) as well as a NPO. All fees received are thus solely used for the purpose of education. The school is situated in Isando and caters for learners from grade 8 to grade 12. We have 261 registered learners, 59 of whom are in grade 12 for 2011. The language of instruction is English.

Elite College has provided quality education to thousands of learners over a period of 16 years. Many of our past learners, who live as successful citizens today, can testify as to the role that Elite College played in shaping their future. Parents choose Elite College as a secondary school for their children not because it is the closest school but because of our reputation of providing quality education. They bring their children to Elite College in Isando because it is the best school for their child.

Our learners come from Tembisa, a previously disadvantage community. Many of them are drop-outs from public schools where the educational system failed them and their parents bring them to us to save their school careers. Without our help many of these children will end up without a matric qualification.

Elite Secondary College provides excellent, professional and affordable secondary education. We strive to equip our learners with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to be worthy citizens and assets in the community. We therefore not only cater for the learners’ present needs, but strive to build a bright future for every learner. Our average passing rate for the last 5 years (2006 -2010) was 78.3%. This average is 3% higher than the Gauteng Provincial average and more than 10% higher than the National Grade 12 average passing rate.

We were shocked when we received a letter on 28 March 2011 informing us that our GDE subsidy has been withdrawn. This leaves us with a deficit of R1.2 million on our budget for 2011. Our parents will have to pay an extra R400 per month to absorb the shortfall. Most of them will not be able to pay the extra school fees. We already had to write off R165,000 for bad debt in 2010. This will make it impossible for us to pay teachers salaries or the rent for the building where the school is currently housed. Failing to do this will lead to closure of the school. This will be the unfortunate result of actions taken and policy implemented by GDE without proper thought and procedure.

If we do not obtain the necessary financial support we would have to close our doors. Two hundred and sixty one students will be without a school. We hope that you will find a way in giving us a life line until 2012.
