Durban Children's Home was established in 1905 by a group of concerned citizens, who saw the need to provide substitute care to orphans, destitute children and children with parents who were unable to care for them.

Durban Children’s Home has evolved over the years from mainly providing custodial care to children, to new programs established to meet the requirements of the national transformational welfare policy in South Africa. In order to meet the new objectives we have developed new innovative programmes which provide relevant, effective and efficient services to the children, youth, families and the community that we serve in the greater Durban Area.

We currently have 82 children who live in our homes and we are reaching approximately 2000 children through our Isibindi Outreach project. This project focuses on children from child headed households who are made vulnerable as a consequence of the ravages of HIV / AIDS in poor rural communities.

High levels of unemployment, poverty, crime, domestic violence, substance abuse, sexual abuse and HIV / AIDS are experienced in our province which results in many children seeking access to the empowering programs our organisation offers.
