Boland Hospice

The Boland Hospice Team have rendered end of life care services to the communities within Worcester (Zwelethemba, Roodewal, Avianpark and Overhex) since August 2005. We expanded our service area to include Touwsrivier, De Doorns, Rawsonville and Slanghoek. As a NPO, Boland Hospice relies heavily on donations and fundraising initiatives to provide care for patients suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

Our Mission is to provide Excellent and Sustainable Palliative Care (including paediatrics) ensuring quality of life and dignity in death.

Our Vision is to provide professional Palliative Care and Early Childhood Development services through an In Patient Unit and Home Base Care.

Continued staff development and good working partnerships within the Breede Valley District allows us to provide care, hope and support with passion. Our Hospice Inter-Disciplinary Team (IDT) provide holistic care, addressing physical, emotional, social and spiritual symptoms and problems, much like the cloak that nurses used to wear – covering the whole of the patient with him leading the care plan. The support is extended into the bereavement period.

The need for our care within the community is constantly growing. The core of our service at Boland Hospice is Home Base Care (HBC), but we do have an In Patient Unit consisting of 16 beds and a peadiatric ward of 4 beds.

Our Main Activities are
- Home Base Care;
- In Patient Unit;
- Peadiatric Wing – in full operation taking care of kwaihorkor and marasmus babies;
- Respite Care;
- Health Awareness Programs;
- Early Childhood Development Programme (ECD);
- ARV treatments for adults as well as children.
