Boitekong Progressive Youth is a non-profit making youth organization formed in April 2009 by the youth of Boitekong. The primary aim of the organization is to eradicate poverty and lowering the level of crime and thereby building a strong, disciplined and a self motivated and driven young adult, resulting to improved conditions as well as the standard of living for the benefit of the community of Boitekong.
To achieve all the objectives, the organization directly engages with the youth of Boitekong as well as the community at large on a number of issues of public interest as mentioned above. The organization has been, and is currently involved in the following number of activities and projects of community interest:
1. Greening of dumping zones:
The project entailed the cleaning and maintenance of illegal dumping zones, a clinic and library in the township. 20 community members participated in the project. The project was conducted under the stewardship of LoveLife and IDT.
2. Community Works Programme (CWP):
This project was implemented by us (BPY) on behalf of Seriti Institute and the Office of the President on a quest of creating 500 000 jobs as promised by the state president. In this project, 250 community members were employed and provided with a stipend.
3. Care givers programme:
The activities of the project are to provide care, in the form of house visits to the orphans and vulnerable children and the terminally ill people who cannot provide help for themselves. In this project 50 community members were employed and provided with a stipend through the mentorship of Leseding Care Givers.
