Our Mission is to further break the poverty cycle and improve mountain safety by increasing the awareness of poor treatment practices of porters working on African Mountains. We partner with other NGOs, foundations and the local community in running education and support programs that uplift porters’ lives and working conditions. We also work with local guiding companies and the private sector in making quality climbing equipment accessible to porters working on mountains in Africa. By doing this we aim to not only improve mountain safety but also empower the porters.

Many porters work on Mount Kilimanjaro without access to adequate clothing, footwear, backpacks or sleeping bags. We work with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project to ensure that every porter has the opportunity to rent clothing from dedicated clothing centres at no charge.

We believe that one of the best weapons against extreme poverty and poor porter working conditions is education. We plan to focus our time and energies on this in the near future but in the short term we are supporting the existing education programmes offered by the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP).

Donations are most welcome! Donated funds will go towards financing the new clothing centres at the gates of the Kilimanjaro National Park and courses in basic First Aid and English for porters.

The cost of each clothing centre ranges from $2100 to $2700 (USD) for one year whilst $536 will provide for the First Aid Certification of 15 Mountain Crew in the Towns of Moshi and Arusha, $630 will provide for the First Aid Certification of 15 Mountain Crew in Village Areas and $420 will provide for two weeks of English Courses for 30 Mountain Crew.
