ACTS is a project of the Wendy Immelman Charitable Trust. The founder, Wendy Immelman, has been involved in community based work for the last 40 years. Carol van Zyl, Manager of ACTS, has established several community based projects over the last 22 years. ACTS works and supports projects at grassroots level in two semi rural communities South of Durban.
VISION
Partner with community based projects to enable community members to break out from their poverty stricken cycle.
MISSION
Meeting the needs of people in under resourced rural communities through:
- Building partnerships
- Developing skills
- Raising funds
- Assisting with the provision of nutritious food
- Pastoral care
AIM
Rather than being direct implementers of programmes, (ACTS) aims to:
- mentor program volunteers
- identify under resourced community based projects and form partnerships
- train leaders in the communities in order to build capacity
- strengthen existing programmes that address the social, spiritual, physical and emotional needs
Our work is currently based in Nsimbini Community. Our efforts are focused on supporting youth and the local church. We therefore support the local High School Izolemamba, enhancing the lives of 943 learners through after school activities, Christian and professional counselling and food for those learners in need.
ACTS also support the local church’s existing projects such as community feeding projects, Home Based Care and Vegetable Garden. At this stage approximately 1100 people get fed by the church on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 750 of these are orphans and the rest poor families and their children.
