Nelly Senong founded the 7th Heaven Children’s Haven in 2002 in Jeffreys Bay as a foster home and safe house for children taken into care by the social services due to severe neglect, abandonment or abuse. The main aim of the Haven is to provide a loving disciplined Christian home environment to these children, reintegrate them back into school and restore their dignity and sense of self worth so that they can grow to offer a positive input into society.
There are many challenges to meet in occupational therapy needs, educational gaps, health issues (many of the children are very sickly when they come in), secure tenure of premises and meeting living costs. Presently there are 15 children in the Haven cared for by Nelly Pebetse and assisted by volunteers. The project became a Section 21 Company in September 2009 when volunteers from the J Bay Baptist church came alongside to offer administrative assistance. Nelly is trained in child care, dealing with alcohol foetal syndrome and play therapy. She has a gift with children and the stories of these children testify to her care and gifting.
Our main needs are monthly pledges however small to help with nappies, formula, school needs and living costs. However, we do also need assistance with some bigger projects to supply therapy equipment, jungle gyms, have a dedicated classroom Wendy House and to buy premises of our own to have stability of a dedicated home for the children.
